construction detailing of building elements

For this project, we are instructed to form a group of 6-7 but we only ended up with 5 members because 2 of the interior design students bailed out last minute. We are tasked to find a double storey terrace house, preferably in Malaysia, and produce orthographic and detailed drawings of it. We also needed to make a 1:10 floor to roof model showing the construction and structural details of the building.

reflection

Overall, this project was not bad but there was an increased workload shared among the team members because 2 of the interior design students have bailed out last minute due to timetable clashes so we had to settle with 5 members. I think this project was an valuable learning experience for me since I did section and detailed drawings of the house and now I understand how the typical house is constructed and its structure as well.  For example, I learned why the roof need trusses and how do floor slabs sit on the wall of the structure. This has become a very useful knowledge as there are a lot of questions regarding the structure of houses in the final exam. Despite the heavy workload, we managed to finish on time, but we definitely could've done better if we did not procrastinate that much and had more time invested in the project.
