the discovery center (genius loci)
site analysis, site response & design concept.
Continuing with the same group from the first project, we are tasked to perform a site visit at Tanjung Tuan Reserve Forest and Tanjung Biru located in Port Dickson as a project. The aim for this project is to gather as much information from the site as possible to convey the identity and the spirit of the place, hence, the genius loci of the place. A detailed analysis on the tangible and intangible aspects of the site is to be done and put together as presentation boards. This project acts as an foundation for our final project, designing a discovery center for the Tanjung Tuan Reserve Forest hence, we needed to have a physical site visit gather physical experiences from the site to integrate into our final project.
reflection
This project was special because we get to go on a 3D2N site visit to Port Dickson for a site visit and I had gained many unforgettable and valuable experiences from it. By going on this site visit, It had increased my appreciation of nature even more and especially Malaysia's because without this site visit I wouldn't have experience and realize the breathtaking natural beauty in Malaysia thus, I am very grateful to be able to take part in this project. With this project, I was able to understand and find what we needed from a site for designing a poetic space. It has developed my critical thinking skills as I had to identify issues from the site and come up with ideas to solve them with the help of architectural diagrams. I also had to be extra sensitive to the site and take note of things people don't really see to identify and conclude the genius loci of the site.
