project 1A
pre-design studies and analysis
Ipoh - Where the River Pauses
In the first project, our group will conduct an in-depth investigation and analysis of the site to identify its key components before moving into the design phase. This exploration allows us to develop a deeper understanding of the site by ‘sensing the place,’ immersing ourselves in its current conditions and connecting them to the project’s target users and objectives. Through this process, we aim to establish the most suitable design strategy and program that aligns with the site's context and needs. We are do conduct a in depth site analysis of our site in Ipoh, showcasing its hidden charms and identity.
reflection
This project has enhanced my site analysis skills, particularly in conducting pre-design assessments that consider both the tangible and intangible aspects of the site. Outstation site visits are always enjoyable, as they offer the opportunity to stay with friends, making the overall experience even more memorable. Exploring the site, I discovered Ipoh's hidden charms, which I have grown to truly appreciate. The locals are warm and welcoming to unfamiliar faces and outsiders. My appreciation for the people of Ipoh deepened after interviewing several elderly residents. Through these conversations, I gained insight into why, unlike the younger generation, they choose to remain in Ipoh. They cherish its laid-back atmosphere and are content with a slower, more relaxed lifestyle— a stark contrast to the fast-paced urban environment of cities like Kuala Lumpur.
