architectural design project

The final chapter of the AD module embarks on an exciting journey under the theme ‘Architecture with an Impact,’ challenging students to craft architectural interventions that thoughtfully respond to socio-cultural needs. This project calls for a deep exploration of the 3P’s – People, Place, and Project, ensuring a harmonious balance between internal spatial design and external environmental demands. Centered around the concept of ‘Sensing the City,’ students will immerse themselves in understanding the aspirations and needs of both the people and the place. The task is to design an Urban Room/City Hub, envisioned as the city’s ‘Third Place’—a dynamic and inclusive space that fosters community engagement and interaction. Rooted in the principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the project aspires to address SDG 10, which focuses on reducing inequalities and promoting inclusivity, and SDG 11, which advocates for the creation of sustainable cities and communities that drive meaningful change through architecture.

Discipline Specific Knowledge

The insights gained from the P1A site analysis and SWOT analysis played a crucial role in shaping my final project. By applying this knowledge, I was able to develop a strategic and contextually responsive design that addresses site challenges while maximizing its potential. This process enhanced the project's functionality, relevance, and alignment with user needs and objectives.

Lifelong Learning

I was able to independently expand my understanding of architectural theories and concepts by engaging with the reading materials provided by my tutors and applying insights gained from lectures to this project. This self-directed learning approach allowed me to deepen my knowledge of architecture and urban site analysis, enhancing my ability to analyze and design with greater confidence and insight.

Interpersonal Skills

I was able to collaborate effectively with my group members by assigning tasks based on each person’s strengths, which contributed to the overall success of the project. This experience significantly improved my skills in communication, empathy, active listening, teamwork, and conflict resolution.
